New Creation Church is a new Southern Baptist church plant recently launched right along the NY/VT border in Granville, New York. We currently meet in the home of one of our pastors, but are praying that God would provide us with $50,000 to complete the purchase of a building right on the main street of our town to serve as a base for gospel ministry.
The Mission of New Creation Church (http://www.nccgranville.org) is to Love Jesus, Serve People, and Tell the Good News about Jesus. All of our members live in or around Granville and share a deep desire to share the love of Jesus with our neighbors.
Our Current Situation
Right now we are holding our weekly worship service in the home of one of our three pastors. Though he has a room in his home that works really well for hosting a large group, we all agree that this is only a temporary solution for our church and that the size of the room, the location and accessibility of the house (especially during the winter), and the "intimidation factor" of going to a stranger's home for the first time will continue to create barriers to would be visitors. Even before our public launch on November 27th, we were pursuing different rental options in our town (rental options are quite limited in Granville). As each one fell through, we became more and more convinced that if we were going to find a space to worship other than a home, we would need to purchase a building.
The Main Street Building
One Saturday morning this past Fall, three of our guys were walking down main street and talking about potential buildings for our church to rent or buy. We were peeking through the windows of the building pictured below, and "happened" to be waved inside by the owner who was doing clean up work and eagerly gave us a tour and tried to sell us the building on the spot. Their asking price at the time was $65,000, and we were not interested (in large part because we hadn't launched yet and weren't ready to purchase anything). Almost a month ago, we decided to walk the building again. We are so grateful to the Lord for blessing us with a husband-wife team from our sending church who have been helping us during this process. The husband is a NYS building inspector and he walked the building with us and helped us assess things. His wife is a realtor. They make a great team! A few weeks later, on December 13th, we made an offer of $55,000 which the owners accepted. We both signed the purchase agreement on December 19th. The closing date we were able to agree upon was January 12th.
There are quite a few reasons why we think this building holds great potential as a "base" for our ministry in Granville:
1) Structurally, this building is very solid and has a very good quality sprinkler system and two working furnaces.
2) We couldn't ask for a better location. It's a well known building in the town with high visibility and easy access.
3) The parking situation is excellent with street parking, and a parking lot in the back.
4) Both the main floor and the second story are handicapped accessible and the upstairs has 8 very large rooms (four on each side of a hallway) which hold great potential for offices, classrooms, a counseling ministry, and even an apartment for ministry interns etc.
5) The main floor is very large, and while it will need quite a bit of "elbow grease" to get it ready for public worship, we are hoping and trusting the Lord that between "work-days" and help from missions teams, we will be able to get the work done. Our dream would be to have it ready for a public worship service on Easter, but we trust the Lord knows what's best. Work on the upstairs, downstairs, and exterior could easily be done in phases in the years to come.
6) Finally, the basement is huge and holds all kinds of future fellowship and outreach potential.
Our current need for this project is $50,000. The closing was January 12th, but has been pushed back. Right now we as a church plant are asking our friends, family, and partner churches to prayerfully consider giving financially to meet this need. We realize that this is a very fast timeline. If it feels fast to you, it feels VERY fast to us. So far though, it seems that the Lord continues to open the doors for this building to work out for us. We will continue to move forward, pray hard, and trust him to fund this work as he sees fit.
How to Give to Support New Creation Church's Building Fund
If you would like to give to this project, you can do so by clicking the "Donate" button on this page. Your gift will be tax deductible and we will receive approximately 94% of it. Like any normal "Go Fund Me" page, the other 6% covers the payment processing fee through stripe, and also helps support the ministry of the Gospel Fund (which is still 1.9% cheaper than Go Fund Me).
If you would prefer to give to us via check, you can make the check directly out to "New Creation Church" and mail it to New Creation Church: 9778 State Route 22, Middle Granville, NY 12849. Giving this way is also tax deductible.
Please Pray for us! Pray that the Lord would continue to lead and guide us in this process, and that the Lord would be pleased to use the ministry of New Creation Church to lead many people to a saving knowledge of our precious savior Jesus Christ. If you have any questions for us, you can email us at [email protected]
