“If you reach Chelsea, you reach New York.” - Jon Tyson, Veteran NYC Church planter
Manor Community Church, birthed in the historic, Dutch reformed tradition, began in the 1850s as as mission effort to serve underprivileged children of Chelsea. Now in recent years, after extensive repairs, ministry continues and Manor is once again a hub of gospel activity, serving hundreds in the Chelsea community each week. The neighborhood of about 50,000 people in midtown Manhattan is largely residential and has very few gospel-believing churches. Manor Community Church seeks to obey the great commission by making disciples and teaching them to love God and their neighbor.
The church operates a food pantry through the donations of several local Trader Joe's grocery stores in Manhattan. This food pantry is also our primary outreach to the community, enabling us to serve approximately four hundred people each week. These people come to us from every walk of life.
Manor church is currently a congregation of about 25 members who are able to contribute approximately 10% of the staff’s salary needs. We are fundraising in order to provide salaries that accommodate the cost of living in Manhattan and offer a sustainable platform for long-term ministry. One of the most glaring needs is currently the housing situation for us pastors. It is vital to live close to the Manor ministry, but Midtown Manhattan is one of the most expensive communities. One-bedroom apartments start at $2,000 per month and require proof of an income that is 40 times the monthly rent. The cost of living here has prohibited many pastors and church planters from staying in the city long term. This is no doubt the biggest obstacle for inner-city missionaries. Until now, we pastors have managed with short-term living situations, but it is time for us to find housing that is more permanent to enable us to better serve this ministry.
In order to remain a part of this ministry in the city we are seeking financial support.
Thank you in advance for your partnership in the gospel.
There are no updates for the project yet.
