The mount of Olives Christian Center in Portugal is expanding! We need your help as we attempt to reach the Iberian Peninsula for Christ.
We have been missionaries in Portugal for the last 27 years, evangelizing, planting churches and training leaders. Ten years ago, the Lord gave us another ministry tool – The Mount of Olives Christian Center.
We are still very active in the other areas of service, but the Mount of Olives has opened many new doors for us. E hold several camps and retreats throughout the year. These events have brought together young people from all over Portugal, not just to have a good time (though we certainly do that), but also to grow in their service for the Lord. Several of those who have been coming are now participating as teacher and counselors in the camps. Some are preparing for full time ministry. We are glad to have a small part in helping along their journey with God.
We also host groups from America, giving them both a taste for another language and culture and opportunity to use their talents for the Lord in a concrete way.
This year we have a special treat. We are located very near the border with Spain, and we will be hosting our first Spanish-language camp this summer! Several Spanish churches are making their plans to come.
Our facilities are a blessing. We have 13 acres covered with olive trees. We have seven wood cabins, a central eating area and two bath houses. Our kitchen is not finished, but functional.
Growth brings challenges. We have had help throughout the years, both financial and physical. Now we are facing the need for additions to our facility.
We have a combined eating and meeting space. It has served us well, but is starting to get crowded. We have begun work on a new area that we can dedicate to the chapel services. We need to pour a floor and put on a roof.
We also need to improve the heart of the camp – the kitchen. Our ladies do a great job, but as the groups grow larger and more frequent, their space needs to improve.
Our bath houses need to grow a bit too. We plan to add on to both of them as soon as we can.
The new numbers also mean more transportation challenges. We are looking to purchase a 9 passenger van – the largest we can use with a normal driver’s license.
There are no updates for the project yet.
